Shadow Transfer

How do you make a sophisticated digital interface seem completely natural?

This project seeks the answer: by using a clever combination of visible and invisible light, shadow transfer allows people to cast impossible shadows onto a live video screen, which can then interact with the shadows of other people all over the world.

Shadow Transfer is an arts intervention we installed for FreqOut, a wireless arts festival to be held across the City of Westminster that explores the artistic and educational potential of wireless technology to engage underprivileged young people living in the borough.

FreqOut is a collaboration between Westminster Council, The ICA, Queens Park New Media Centre and Vertex, supported by the Arts Council of England.
