More Associates anticipates 2009; wishes merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone!
2008 was an exciting year for More: It was the year that Onzo became independent, won major investment to take climate-change to the masses, and was later listed in the Guardian clean-tech 100. The new GVEP International website was shortlisted for the prestigious EBIC Social Impact Awards for its success in taking sophisticated knowledge and information management to the third sector. And John Grant's 'Green Marketing Manifesto' recently won the environmental category of the British Book Design and Production Awards 2008.
It looks as though 2009 holds out even more promise. Times will be tough across the economy, but it's hard not to feel excited about the silver lining: there are opportunities to make the radical changes we urgently need wrapped up in the challenges that we all face - as businesses, governments and as individuals. The greenwashers already seem to be retreating, demands for quality are going up, and more and more or the people with influence are the ones who know what they're talking about.
Also, 2009 will bring us COP15 in Copenhagen, a new and really promising character in Barack Obama, who is well placed to create conditions that will not only enable, but could necessitate rapid global action on climate change - if he removes national-competitiveness barriers that have prevented the developed world from making progress.
